- barrister and university administrator
J. Foster joined the Wallaby Club in 1937 and maintained his membership until 1947. He was a barrister and Registrar of the University of Melbourne (1938-1947), Secretary of the Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee (1936-1947). In 1947 he returned to England where he occupied numerous university administrative and advisory positions. He was appointe CMG in 1964 and received honorary degrees from seven Commonwealth universities including the University of Melbourne in 1975.

A Private Club
The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
