Biographical entry Segnit, E. Ralph ( - 1999)
Ralph Segnit joined the Wallaby Club in 1975 and maintained his membership until his death in 1999. He was elected President in 1986, was Walks Secretary 1990-1993 and awarded honorary life membership. He was a mineralogist and a Senior Principal Research Officer with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). The mineral Segnitite was named after him - it is a greenish to yellowish brown, tranparent - translucent trigonal crystal discovered near Broken Hill. Its IMA status was approved in 1991.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
