A. Dempster joined the Wallaby Club in 1979 and maintained his membership until his death in 1994. He was elected President in 1989 and was Treasurer 1982-1987. He was a 'repetition and general' engineer who was the proprietor of an electroplating business for 29 years. He was a brother of R. Dempster, father-in-law of C. Berry and a brother-in-law of Dr R. Southby.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
