D. Watson joined the Walalby Club in 1991 and maintained his membership until his death in 2005. He trained in dentistry and worked in private practice. He was Honorary Dental Surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital 1949-1969; Dental Officer at the Royal Dental Officer 1949-1950; Dental Officer for the Royal Australian Navy Reserve (RANR) 1953-1988; and Senior Dental Officer with the RANR with the rank of Surgeon Commander 1970-1978. He was also a veteran, vintage and classic car enthusiast.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
