L. Williams joined the Wallaby Club in 1993 and he retained his membership until his death in 2007. He trained as a dentist and was President of the Australian Dental Association (Victorian Plant), President of the Dental Board of Victoria and a Captain in Australian Army Dental Corp during World War II.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
