Dr Richard Kirsner joined the Wallaby Club in 1998. He was Secretary from 200 to 2010, Vice-Prersident in 2010 and President 2011. Trained in electrical engineering and physiology, he worked both as a biomedical engineer and as a scientist. He was Director of Medical Engineering and Physics at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne 1977-1997. In 1997 he was appointed to the Department of Electronic Engineering at LaTrobe University, where he is currently Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He was a member of the Administrative Council of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering for some years, and was Treasurer from 1991-1997. In 1984 he became Secretary of the Australian Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
