Michael Looker joined the Wallaby Club in 2003. He trained in botany and biochemistry. From 2000 to 2005 he was Director of the Trust for Nature (Victoria) and his earlier career appointments included: Senior Lecturer in Environmental Horticulture at Burnely College (1992-2000); Superintendent of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne (1987-1992); and Horticultural Botanist at the National Herbarium of Victoria. He was awarded a Diploma of Horticulture at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and was co-editor of the Oxford Companion to Australian Gardens.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
