Dr Laurie Martinelli joined the Wallaby Club in 2004. In 2007 he was elected to the Wallaby Club Committee. He trained as a biologist and worked with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) from 1974 to 2000. He was initially a scientific editor of one of the plant science journals and was eventually publisher of the journals group comprising 16 scientific journals. He subsequently took on a part-time position with CSIRO Publishing producing a small quarterly journal.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
