Biographical entry Selby-Smith, Christopher (1942 - 2007)
- 15 September 2007
- academic, economist and public servant
Professor Chris Selb-Smith joined the Wallaby Club in 2005 and maintained his membership until his surprising and very sudden death on 15 September 2007. During his short membership of the Club, Chris was a regular walker and attended most dinners. He was great conversationalist and could lead an informal chat into profound and insightful territory. He had a great knack of finding the next question that naturally extended thinking without becoming overtly challenging. At the time of his death Chris was a Professor of Management in Business Economics at Monash University.
Chris Selby-Smith was the founding Director of the Monash University-ACER Centre for the Economics of Education and Training. This was an area of study which Chris helped to establish in Australia and was a field in which he made a major contribution.
