Dr Ray Garrod joined the Wallaby Club in 1950 and maintained his membership until his death in 2009. He was elected an honorary life member. He was a physicist and scientific administrator. He was Director of the Commonwealth Antarctic Division from 1972 to 1980 following his appointment as Head of the Science Division of the Commonwealth Department of Education and Science, 1968-1972. Other positions included Defence Research and Development Attache for the Australian Embassy in Washington, 1966-1968, and a Principal Research Scientist at the Aeronautical Research laboratories, 1954-1966. He was a brother-in-law of Dr T.A. Pressley.

The Wallaby Club is a Melbourne-based walking club established in 1894 with a strong bias towards good fellowship, talking and an appreciation of both the natural and built environments. Membership is strictly limited and is by invitation only.
